September 4th 2006 - Two clubs have just joined forces to gain strength in local and Midlands Hockey.

Club Captain Karen Setchell reports that following talks Charnwood Ladies, a Midland Premier team, have reached agreement with Sileby Ladies to join forces to present an all inclusive club for forward development in hockey, in Leicestershire.  The amalgamation will allow players seeking progression to the challenge of higher hockey, whilst others will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of coaching for the more advanced nature of the game. The social aspect is paramount in the amalgamation!

Karen said, "This is an exciting time for both 'former' clubs and we are of course open to new members who are willing to take this journey with us, anyone who is interested should contact me on 07742178637, email kazsetchell@hotmail.com or visit our web site www.clhc.co.uk "

A Sileby Ladies rep said" We have been ever present in local hockey for more than 30 years, without ever reaching the highest pinnacle for the club or our players, we hope that this amalgamation will prove beneficial for both teams in providing good quality hockey for years to come”

Home matches for both teams are played at Soar Valley Leisure Centre, Mountsorrel on Saturdays and training takes place 7.00 – 9.00pm every Tuesday.

September 1st - A Long Time Ago!!

Do have a look at these few pictures from yesteryear and if you know any of the missing names, please pass them on to Karen Setchell -  opens up in a new window, be especially patient if you're on dial-up!.

August / September 2006 - Another Mavericks Triumph in Summer League

On Tuesday 22nd August Mavericks Sevens Hockey Team were crowned champions of the 1st Division of the Leicestershire Ladies Summer League. This capped off another impressive season, demonstrating the consistency of the team; this is the 14th consecutive year Mavericks have been victorious in the competition! The team is made up of players from clubs across the East Midlands, who year in, year out combine their skills to form a formidable hockey force!

Mavericks won all but three of their games this season. Their only defeat was at the hands of Hospitals, who fought hard for all of the game and thoroughly deserved their 1-0 victory. Maverick’s first draw was versus Leicester, in a rather eventful match! Mavericks were down to the bare minimum of seven when a raised ball connected with Sarah Fraser’s head. Leicester very kindly volunteered one of their players but a second half injury to Ali Goodger (and possibly the fact that England were playing in the World Cup that evening!) meant that both teams agreed to the game being called off at 2-2. The team’s second draw came in the last game of the tournament against a young, talented Hinckley side, who were also in contention for the title. Both teams worked hard to try and take the upper hand but neither saw the fruits of their labour.

The team are sad to see another great summer of hockey come to an end, and even sadder to see the retirement of Kaz Setchell as team organiser. Kaz has dedicated many years to sorting out the team and everyone who has ever been involved with Mavericks is extremely grateful to her.
