March 17th - AGM & Presentation

Our AGM and presentation will be held on Saturday April 26th at 7.00pm at Barrow Conservative Club. Put it in your diary and look out for more details later.

February 26th -

On Sunday 24th February Charnwood Sileby took part in a junior hockey tournament held at Melton hockey club. The club entered two ladies teams into the under 15’s category and played teams from South Leicester, Rutland, Ashby and Melton as well as a final match against each other.

Team one finished third with wins over Ashby (2-0) and Charnwood 2 (1-0), a draw with Rutland (0-0) and two losses against South Leicester (2-0) and Melton (1-0).

Team two finished fifth with draws against South Leicester (0-0) and Ashby (2-2), and losses against Melton (1-0), Rutland (3-0) and Charnwood 2 (1-0).

Well done to all the players that took part and thank you to all the people that helped organise the teams and to all the parents for their support.

November 19th - Our Vixens Progress

On Sunday 18th November, Charnwood Sileby Vixens played their second set of matches in the inaugural Vixens Hockey league. The team consisted of ten under 14’s, two under 16’s, a senior player to guide them along, and a group of parents and supporters that were crazy enough to brave the weather. Despite the awful weather conditions the team put in two excellent performances and were rewarded with a 1-0 win over Melton and a 3-1 win over South Leicester.

September 17th - Ladies Summer League 2007

Over the summer months Charnwood Sileby 2nds have been busy participating in the Leicestershire ladies summer league competition. This is a seven-a-side competition consisting of three divisions each containing six teams. Due to a late withdrawal from one of the other teams, we were able to enter two teams into this year’s third division. This enabled us to split the second team squad into two even teams allowing players to play more regularly and also offering some friendly inter club competition.

It proved to be a very exciting league this year with some good close games, all of which were played in the right spirit. I am pleased to say that both teams did exceptionally well against some tough opposition (please see the table below for final standings). Also I am proud to say the club has received praise from opposition teams, coaches and league organizers for the way players conducted themselves both on and off the pitch and the level of skills shown.

Congratulations to all players that took part and thank you for representing the club in such a positive way.

September  -  Building for a better future:

Charnwood Ladies HC and Sileby Ladies HC have now fully amalgamated to become Charnwood  Sileby HC.

The two clubs had worked together for a year on a trial basis to see how the mixture of young and old, experience and passion could come together and this successful pilot was concluded at an extraordinary meeting in Aug 2007 where the new constitution was agreed and adopted.

Not only was there a reformation of the two teams, with movements of players in both directions, but a new junior section has been started by adding a further pitch slot for new young players to receive training. And it’s not just about training, the club has taken the opportunity to enter this fledgling team in the New LRHA Vixens leagues.

Continuing to build towards a sound future, the club is in the early stages of preparation to submit its application to England Hockey to achieve its ‘Clubs First’ accreditation, thus ensuring that club policies, child welfare and appropriate coaching is core to the clubs continuing development and, it is hoped, to ensure that a bright and long future is there for all our members.

August 23rd - Leavers
