Charnwood Sileby 2 Match Report

Sunday 9th February – Melton 2 (H)

As the game got underway Melton found themselves under a bit of early pressure. Charnwood Sileby kept pushing, and took charge. A long pass cut through visitors defence putting Aly Goodger in the middle of the Melton D, who she calmly rounded on reverse to slot home the team’s first .

More pressure on the Melton goal followed with some fantastic lead up play from Amy Lang and Karen Setchell, creating a space for a straight strike from Aly Goodger at the top of the D to make it 2-0.

Melton had a few chances as the game evened up a little but they amounted to nothing as the home sides defence stood firm. ‘Player of the match’ Viv Carr had a lot of the action, and put some great balls through to the forwards, who used these to force a penalty corner. With the initial strike from Aly Goodger stopped a great ball from the side of the D found Cath Drew on the penalty spot, who calmly swept the ball past the keeper, making it 3-0 at half time.

Charnwood continued to press in the second half, with some excellent play throughout the side. A good through ball from Goodger found Mel Swindenback in the middle of the D to fire home Charnwood’s 4th.

However, the home side didn’t ease off as a cross from Sian Murray found Kaz Setchell at the top of the D, who made no mistake in driving the ball past the keeper to make the score 5-0.

Melton refused to give up, pushing the home side back into their own 25. A penalty corner provided them with a chance, but was stopped on the goal line by Amy Lang.

As the game approached full time, Aly Goodger continued to create the chances for Charnwood Sileby. Finally, receiving the ball unmarked and with time to spare, she lifted the ball into the left of the goal for her third and the teams 6th.

In the dying moments of the game, Charnwood Sileby continued to work hard. The Melton defence kept strong but were no match for the Charnwood Sileby team as another excellent pass from Viv Carr found Karen Setchell, who rounded two defenders before passing the ball the Mel Swindenback who found herself with time and space. She calmly slotted the ball past the Melton keeper Final score Charnwood Sileby 7- 0 Melton.

In an excellent team performance, Charnwood Sileby showed the full potential of a strong and skilful side, which will hopefully continue next week against Loughborough Town.
