Despite the match being delayed due to a frozen pitch, Charnwood Sileby still managed to produce some entertaining hockey and were able to maintain their 100% record for 2008.
The match began with both sides enjoying good spells of possession. Both teams demonstrated quick passing and good skills but it was Charnwood Sileby who managed to create the best chances and therefore put the first goal in the net.
The opposition goalkeeper dived to the ground, providing the opportunity for Cath Drew to lift the ball into the centre of the net. The goal gave Charnwood Sileby confidence and so they were then able to create more chances and eventually more goals.
Charnwood Sileby were able to take their lead to 0-4 with good goals from Sian Murray, Kaz Setchell and Mel Swidenbank. At this point it looked as if it was going to be a definite win for Charnwood. However, Loughborough showed that they were not going to give up easily and midway through the second half there were some worrying times for Charnwood. Loughborough enjoyed lots of possession and forced some penalty corners. Their efforts paid off and they brought the score back to 2-4.
Charnwood were then forced to defend in order to prevent Loughborough scoring further goals. They fought hard and managed to hold on to their lead, enjoying more attacking possession. They were relieved when the final whistle went and the score stood as 2-4, meaning Charnwood are still unbeaten in 2008.
Charnwood would like to thank Aileen and Viv who were willing to play in defence despite their usual positions being midfield / Forwards. Both players put in good performances to help Charnwood keep their lead.
