Charnwood Sileby 2 Match Report
Saturday 26th January – Grantham 2 (A)
Charnwood Sileby started 2008 with an emphatic 5-0 win against Grantham 2 in blustery conditions.
Charnwood Sileby got the perfect start after just 4 minutes when Carol Allenby scored from a penalty corner. They looked in great form early on with some fine passing moves. The second goal showed us what they were capable of. Vicky Moore dribbled the ball down the right wing before squaring the ball to Carol. Carol’s shot was well saved by the Grantham keeper but the ball found it’s way across goal for Abi Perry to finish off a great team move.
Grantham were forced into changing their goalkeeper at half time due to injury but they came out fighting in the second half determined to get back into the match. Unfortunately for them they were faced with a defence in top form and rarely forced a clear opportunity. Charnwood Sileby grew in confidence and began to dictate the game. They were creating numerous chances but couldn’t find that killer instinct. Eventually the pressure paid off and two goals followed in quick succession, both scored by Cath Drew. The first resulted from a well-hit ball to the top of the D by Claire Mchugh which Cath collected and drilled a shot past the keeper. Cath’s second saw her dribble the ball round the defender before slotting it past the keeper. As the final whistle approached there was just enough time to add a fifth goal. This time a cross by Alex Fisher was missed by the Grantham keeper and Sian Murray was on hand to finish.
