Charnwood Sileby 2 Match Report
Saturday 29th September – Leicester 5 (H)
The opening match of the new season was played at Loughborough University on their new rubber crumb pitch. Both teams struggled to adapt to a tricky and unfamiliar playing surface that appeared slow and caused the ball to bobble. Despite this both teams played a competitive match with Charnwood edging it 3-1.
Charnwood Sileby had the perfect start when captain Ali Goodger found herself unmarked in front of goal and coolly hit a reverse stick shot past the keeper. After the initial excitement of an early goal and with both teams continuing to adapt to the difficult playing surface, the half offered few chances with both teams looking to ease their way into the new season.
Half Time 1-0
The second half proved to be a more open affair with both teams enjoying plenty of possession and creating some good goal scoring opportunities. Charnwood Sileby doubled their lead almost immediately as Cath Drew found herself in space and coolly slotted the ball into the goal. Leicester began to apply pressure as they went in search of a goal and were rewarded midway through the half, scoring from a penalty corner. Charnwood Sileby came straight back at the opposition and Carol Allenby scored the teams third goal with a stunning strike. A special mention to Thea, Rachel, Georgia, Kaz, and Ali G who all made their 2nd team debuts.
