South Leicester Youth Hockey provides opportunities for young people between the ages of six and seventeen to receive coaching and competition in various tournaments and matches around the county.  All coaching is by qualified and experienced coaches who are trained and follow a coaching programme designed to develop youngsters from novice to county standard.

 The club has been in existence since 1989, and has an excellent track record in winning local competitions and promoting youngsters into senior and representative (county and midlands) hockey. We currently have 9 squads based around the following arrangement: Under 9 Mixed, Under 11 Girls, Under 11 Boys, Under 13 Girls, Under 13 Boys, Under 15 Girls, Under 15 Boys, Under 17 Girls, Under 17 Boys. We also field mixed teams for certain tournaments and enter the Adult Mixed, Mens and Ladies Summer Leagues as a development facility for our U15s and U17s.

May 2006 -

SLYH finished the season strongly with another double win on Sunday. The junior hockey club picked up the under 13 and under 11 girls hockey trophies at the excellently run Leicester Hockey Club tournament yesterday (Sunday 14th) at St Margaret’s. The under 11 SLYH boys were runners up in their competition. 

Nine of the girls have also been selected for Midlands region trials over the summer showing the strength in depth at the club. They now celebrate the end of the season with a tour to Gloucestershire next weekend.

March 2006:

As reported in the Leicester Mercury, South Leicester Youth Hockey does the double in the Leicestershire County Mini Hockey Championships. SLYH won both the under 13 and under 11 girls mini hockey girls tournament on Sunday 12th March at St Margaret's.

Both teams now go on to represent Leicestershire in the Midlands finals at Cannock on April 2nd.
 
It is great to have a club based at Guthlaxton College in Wigston drawing children from schools in the local Sth Leicester area to win the day.
