Info For Visitors:

Market Harborough Mixed Hockey Club dropped a team few years ago and now supports 3 regular Leicestershire League teams based at Welland Park Community College, Market Harborough. Some individuals now also play in Mens, Womens and University sides across the country and we encourage them to come back and share their skills when they free.

Mkt Harbro' hold training nights at the college on Wednesdays, so if you want to learn more, come and talk to our trainers (ladies and keepers are always particularly welcome).
    Juniors aged up to about 14 - Wednesdays 5.40pm - 6.40pm.
Seniors up to senility  - Wednesdays at 6.40pm - 8.10pm

Home matches for our A and B teams are on Saturdays at 1.00pm and for the C team at 2.30pm. Supporters are always welcome - refreshments are taken at the Union on Leicester Road!

Recent History of Success:

Mkt Harbro' had a successful year in 1999/2000 with the 'B' team winning the Mossdale trophy, the C team being promoted to the 3rd Division and the new 'D' team scoring points in their first year out. Our 'A' team was in the Plate Finals (a knockout for league winners and runners-up) on 6th May 2000. Here are a couple of pictures taken of the runners up (ourselves) and some of their supporters! To see them full size just give them a click. If you want to see some pictures of our Club enjoying the spoils of its victories at the Association Presentation evening on 6th May 2000, click Celebrations! Also in May 2000, we took part in the annual Worthing tournament. Click to see the pictures which Emma Tilley (now with Charnwood Ladies) provided and to which no comments are needed!!

The only fly in the ointment was that the 'B' team failed to stay in the 2nd Division and though joining the 'C' team in the 3rd, has embarrassingly recovered to the 1st Division for the 2002/3 season. Unfortunately, many players moved on for the 2003/4 season and the old 'B' team had to be disbanded.

In 2003/4 the old D team, now the new C team, had a runaway success and despite playing many non-regular players and being short of girls on at least 3 occasions, it  became 4th Div league champions and proud medal winners, well done. As it has turned out, goal keepers were still not a major issue to the club in 2004/5 and half way through the season, the C team found itself at the top of the 3rd division - frightening! However, many people were known to be going to university at the end of the year, so after a year of consolidation and success, it was felt that another promotion, to the 2nd division, was best avoided.

So on to 2005/6 and staying  in the 3rd division turned out to be sad, but a wise decision. The loss of many players from the club, and especially important players in the C team, especially strikers, had a devastating effect, not helped by the cancellation rather than postponement of the first match of the season! The minus points and slow start (even if veteran Mick Morgan did score his first competition career goal) the unlucky results and match draws instead of wins, all meant that by the end of the season, Mkt Harbro' C team was to  descend again into the 4th division.

Rob Smith

'A' team Captain with the big thumbs up

Sad to go down on goal difference after winning 7 games, it was so close! But wait! Extra teams in the  league meant that only one team went down AND  we did not have 5 divisions after all. So, the C team is to stay in the 3rd division - now  it has something to prove in 2006/7.
