Match Report
League - Saturday 13th January 2007
Rutland Horseshoes 1 Market Harborough 8
After last weeks cup triumph against Leicester Mixed, the visitors came
into this game full of confidence. Harborough looked in total command
from the start as the ageing Horseshoes were unable to contend with the
pace of the A teams young guns and took an early lead through inform
Elle Hand.
Tim Chapman put his own disappointing first nil return of the season
behind him bagging two first half strikes, sandwiching a superb goal
from Lisa Coe. Rutland offered little in reply with the ever-reliable
Lauren Hand and the impressive Vicki Warden constantly thwarting the
home sides efforts to get back into the match.
Leading 4-0 at the break, captain Rob Smith had little more to say than
‘keep it up guys’ going into the second half despite losing the presence
of 19 year old superstar Neil James. With the team having to reshuffle,
Rutland took advantage early on with their only scoring play of the
game. Their success was short lived though with Paul Moorhouse shoring
up the defence and the A’s soon found themselves back on the attack with
the first of 4 second half goals from Darren Edwards.
With their confidence plummeting, Horseshoes were simply unable to
contain the forward partnership of Tim Chapman and Darren Edwards, but
credit must also go to Bobby Read who performed brilliantly playing his
first game in the heart of midfield. At 8-1, it was clear the home
faithful had seen enough as Harborough completed the double over their
mid table rivals.
