Loughborough edge out Harborough in Close Encounter

Loughborough Carillon A 2 Market Harborough 1

Market Harborough A travelled to Loughborough on Saturday in the morning and narrowly lost out in a closely fought match. Despite missing a couple of regular personnel and players having to adopt unfamiliar positions, Harborough created simply the best of the early opportunities although a solid defence and an in form keeper for the home team meant the score at half time remained 0-0.

After the break saw Harborough start brightly with a period of pressure in the opponents half finally resulting in the deadlock being broken.   A swift move 10 minutes in started from the right of midfield and led to a cross from a mysterious girl and straightforward finish for Mr Brightside himself Tim Chapman who added to his fine seasonal tally.

Cries of ‘baby one more time’ reverberated from the goal scorers girlfriend on the sideline and this should have given Harborough reason to believe but this seemed only to spur Carillons on who replied immediately with a break away from midfield exposing the defence and a powerful shot leaving keeper Baz Liddle sprawling with sad eyes.

This seemed to dent the ‘I will survive’ attitude of the Harborough players whose work rate could not be faulted. They eventually came unstuck within the last quarter however when a goal mouth scramble led to the ball being poked over the line to give the away team all three points.

A disappointing end to a spirited performance left Harborough broken hearted.
