10/10/11 : LRHA Mixed Player Registered as at 18th December 2011
Hello Everyone,
Sent to the EC & all the LRHA Mixed Section Team
& Club Secretaries.
Below is a list showing the a 'totals' breakdown
of Registered players, actively participating and competing in the
LRHA Mixed Section Competitions 2011 / 2012 as at 18 December 2011.
Also we have many volunteers within the mixed
group.
The 'Volunteer' numbers are not included below,
many are retired players, parents of young players, umpires,
coaches, and people wanting to give service to others.
BREAKDOWN OF MIXED
SECTION REGISTERED PLAYERS - AS AT 18TH DECEMBER 2011.
Almost every month we receive player membership
applications as the 12 year olds reach the grand old age of 13
years!
It is worth noting also that the divide between
lads and lasses is not quite 50 - 50!
Age group 18yrs to 25 yrs, accounts for almost
1/3rd of the list totals!
If we consider that this age group embraces many
young people away at places of training, or in the services, I think
it demonstrates just how many enterprising young people we have
within our midst!
Incidentally the people away are not part of the
totals!
I wonder how many more people are on the
fringes, just looking for a happy sporting fun group to join, and
may keep healthy at the same time?
e.g Below is reference to a very
enterprising group of people in Market Harborough
Hockey Club - Mixed!
A few weeks ago, a
"Main Street Hockey Event" was staged in Market
Harborough town centre, by Market Harborough Mixed Hockey Club!
The interest from 'Passer's-by' was a major
surprise and the event 'gathered-in':
A) A number of young people who had never
played hockey,
B) Players who used to play and needed a nudge
- to return to the sport,
C) A retired gentleman 'Hockey Coach' no less,
who needed a challenge and is now helping with the training and
coaching at the club!
Add to this:
A 'Civil Engineering' contracting firm working in
MH main street offered road fences, cones etc - free of charge
and advice!
The local Market Harborough Council and the
Leicestershire County Council gave
every assistance - including equipment!
Some local firms gave help and equipment - at no
cost!
England Hockey gave some assistance!
Below is a message after the event from the
Market Harborough Mixed Hockey Club Secretary Carly Rose:
I just wanted to tell you what a
great success our 'Come and Play Day' was on Saturday - thank
you for your help. Along with the England Hockey Board we had
help from many companies in the community including Tesco,
Sainsburys, MDH Sports, Parr Automotive Ltd, Land'O'Rourke (the
people digging up the town centre), Its a Gas, Fastant, Xtreme
Van/Autosparks, Harborough FM, Exeter Primary School of Corby,
Farndon Fields Primary School of Market Harborough, Welland Park
Community Centre of Market Harborough and a local Tawny Owl from
a Brownies group! We also had lots of help from our own players
and good advice from members of other clubs and associations.
I think it shows what can be done!
I congratulate Carly Rose, for her leadership,
hard work on pursuing an unusual and exciting project, and
not giving in!
I say to Market
Harborough Hockey Club - well done!
To all other hockey clubs when short of players -
YOU COULD TRY SOMETHING LIKE THIS - IT IS CALLED - TAKING HOCKEY TO
THE PEOPLE?!!!!!!!!!!!
To see details of this event follow:
Market Harborough Hockey Club Newsletter November 2011
and go to Events and Fundraising
Anyone interested in such a project - make sure
you have permission from the Councils etc - - and make sure of
Insurance cover!
I wish everyone the Seasons Greetings and a Very
Happy New Year.
Best wishes,
Robert Brooks
10/10/11 : To all 47 Mixed Team Secretaries and the Club Secretaries.
The EC and the Player Registration Group thank
everyone for the contributions they have made in attaining a
majority of the Player Registrations. Please keep up the good work!
Slowly we are reaching the 'Goal' of a completed
list of Mixed Section players!
Please remember this system is mainly for the
Teams / Clubs - to make the process easy.
It also quickly determines whether a potential
new signing, or a new registered player for your team, is
already registered for another club.
This method stops all the confusions and
eliminates the embarrassment, or annoyance, when weeks later the
reduction of points / fining teams for playing an 'illegal' player
is carried out - if in doubt please ask!
No one wants to return to the 'SILLY OLD DAYS' -
Hockey is for fun and enjoyment!
A)
REQUEST ON 'PLAYER REGISTRATIONS'.
After the MRLs 'Master
Registration Lists' were, or have been, completed can you please
submit player registrations by using the attached form.
At the same time
please make sure the new player, or the re-signing of an omitted 'MRL'
player, signs the first match card her, or his, name appears on!
"Don't forget the RTF for
insurance records and the new RTF transfer idea".
REASON.
It takes about 10 seconds
to make the entry into the Player Data List!
Otherwise each one has to
be typed in - very time consuming and we do not have that free time
available!!!!!!!!
PLEASE.
Can all secretaries
submitting forms please make sure it is sent within an electronic
system that successfully reaches us in a form we can understand and
use - you would be amazed at some of the results - I could start
returning them!!!!!!!!!
B) REQUEST FOR MATCH CANCELLATION
Please find attached a
copy of the RPF (Request for Postponement Form).
It seems that many new
secretaries, AND SOME OF THE OLD BRIGADE, are not following the
correct procedure for match cancellations.
The attached form is
clear!
The Playing Regulations
are also precisely defined!
We take note of the
difficult situation forced upon us by the Leicester City Council at
St Margaret's - BUT that is by no means the total reason!
There is a perfectly good
set of reasons for the 'Regulations'!
1) Opposition know what
is happening!
2) Booking, or more
important, the cancellation of a pitch is under control - THESE COST
A LOT OF MONEY!
3) The UMPIRES do not
turn up to umpire a cancelled game!
4)
The
umpires can be used more usefully at another game!
5) The EC, namely the
Fixtures Secretary, can reschedule games in an orderly fashion!
You will all recall the
Fixture confusions at the beginning of the season!
This was caused by a
number of teams not making up their minds whether to field a team
this season or not!!!!
C)
AT THE HOCKEY GAME, AROUND THE GAME & ON THE PITCH DURING THE GAME:
ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR, FOUL LANGUAGE AND PLAYER VIOLENCE!
On Page 8 of the handbook
and on behalf of the Mixed Section, Steve (Sellars) explained "WHAT
IS NOT GOING TO BE TOLERATED anywhere within our game!
It seems that a few
people have not yet received the message, OR PERHAPS THEY BELIEVE
THEY HAVE SPECIAL PRIVILEGES - HOW WRONG THEY ARE!?
Teams / Clubs MUST make
sure the respective team players are aware!
THE HOUR IS UPON US -
TODAY IS MAKE UP YOUR MIND TIME -
HAVE NO DOUBTS, SOME PLAYERS COULD BE EXCLUDED FROM ALL HOCKEY FOR A
VERY LONG TIME!
You may recall from many
previous AGMs and hockey gatherings, that an agreement was forged
between the AGM, EC, Teams & Clubs, Playing Officials and welcomed
by the players.
The policy was & is
endorsed by the other hockey bodies, some local councils, the
educational sites where hockey is played, and in addition to this,
the Insurance Underwriters with respect to any violence.
We call on ALL clubs to
fulfil the part they agreed to, which expects them to CONTROL ALL
THESE PROBLEMS.
The Disciplinary
Committee, the Disciplinary Officer, and the Mixed Section EC
will listen very carefully, try to understand, but the main duty is
a 'Duty of Care' to all others!
This will be done.
I am disappointed that yet again I have
to record this note with so many of our clubs.
D) After all this I ask everyone a very big favour.
In our fourth division we
have a large group of young players just learning the trade and the
fun of hockey.
I ask that if when you
have scored ten goals past these enthusiastic youngsters, could you
refrain from scoring yet another ten!
HOPEFULLY, these young
people are the future of hockey and if you completely annihilate
them in one game to such an extent they abandon hockey - what have
you done?
At four or five goals and
the game obviously won, why not change your play to a demonstration
display - talk to them - help them - you are going to win anyway!
Remember that next year,
or the year following when you don't have enough players for your
team, don't ask the question where are all the young players?
Just recall at this stage
- perhaps I was the cause - especially those individuals who never
had any youth!!!!!
I recall when I was young
- many people helped me - in turn I help others!
Once again thank you on behalf of the EC
and the members who love playing hockey!
Best wishes, Robert J Brooks
Administration Officer, LRHA Mixed
Section.

---------------------------------- 4/9/11 : HANDBOOK for Season 2011 / 2012.
The information is being taken to the printers on Monday 5th
September 2011.
It is hoped, and we expect, it will be completed by the end of the
week.
The past few months have
been the worst I have ever experienced in all of my fifty plus years
organising sport / hockey.
MANY TEAMS have failed to supply the Handbook
information anywhere
near the correct date in July!
I
am fed up of sending out reminders, requests and being asked to wait
because people were about to go on holiday!
Late August is no go if people want a 'CORRECT' handbook before the
season start date!
The number of
changes:
Some teams
dropping out, some teams joining with others, some teams wanting to
join has been a nightmare!
Add to this the
Insurance Broker contact turned out to be a "PR--" and the process
took nearly four weeks to sort out!
I had to go to
near Director level in the end - to just get the date changed from
last year to 2011 - 2012 - no comment - most of them are just key
bashers these days!!!!!!
NEXT YEAR
I think next year either
we scrap the handbook and the teams sort everything out between
themselves at a meeting - Leicestershire Badminton (200 teams) used
to do this successfully for years.
Or
The deadline will be the
MIXED SECTION AGM 2012.
Any club that fails will
have blank panels in the handbook!
If I can help don't
hesitate to contact me.
Sorry but just sometimes
I get rather exasperated, especially when I look outside at the
sunshine, and I am locked on the computer trying to make hockey
happen!
Best wishes,
Robert
