Charnwood Mountsorrel 1 (1) v
Kingswinford 3 (1)
Charnwood Mountsorrel started the new season in the re-named Masters Cup
with a loss against a feisty West Midlands side.
After starting the game well, dominating early possession and creating
several chances, the home side opened the scoring when Mark Weaver finished
expertly. Further chances were wasted
during this period and the visitors gradually got into the game. A key moment came mid-way through the half,
when Charnwood had a goal disallowed, much to the surprise of the home side.
Charnwood were the architects of their own demise in the latter stages
of the half, as possession was frequently wasted and the team structure
faltered. Inevitably, Kingswinford
gained confidence and equalised before the break.
The second period was a hostile affair, with several robust challenges
from the visitors upsetting the flow of the game. Charnwood struggled to get going and
continued to give the ball away for much of the half, only producing brief
passages of the passing style of play of which they are capable. Kingswinford took the lead with about 15
minutes to go and increased their advantage after debutant Paul Willars and a
Kingswinford forward were rightly sin-binned for an altercation after another
nasty tackle.
Charnwood could not respond, so slipped to defeat at the first
hurdle. The Plate now beacons….
