Charnwood Mountsorrel 11 (3)  v  Ashby 1 (1)

Charnwood Mountsorrel won this first round match in the Masters Cup competition held at Mountsorrel.  A close first half saw Charnwood take a 3-1 lead through goals from Mark Armson (2) and Mike White.

Armson completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half, before goals from Iain Brown, Chris Waterfield and Steve Fairbrother extended the lead.  White completed his hat-trick with two fine strikes, before Mark Franklin scored the pick of the goals with a delicate dink over the diving ‘keeper.  Stand-out midfielder Nigel Rixon completed the scoring late-on, clinically finishing a fine passing move from close range.

Round 2  24.11.13

Charnwood Mountsorrel 4 (2)  v  Barford Tigers 9 (6)

Charnwood met a very good Barford team featuring many former National League players.  Despite leading twice in the first half, through well-taken goals from Mark Franklin and Iain Brown, Charnwood could not hold the slick visitors, who were the more clinical, scoring six goals in the half.  Home ‘keeper Mick Kelleher was frequently exposed by clever interplay and deceptive movement in the circle and had little chance with the goals scored.

The loss of striker Mike White before the break was keenly felt, but Charnwood put in a resilient second-half performance and scored goals through Mark Armson and Guy Rollins, both from well-executed penalty corners.

The Tigers played a great style of hockey, thoroughly testing the new-look Charnwood side, and ran out comfortable winners.
