About the LRHA:
At the 2007 AGM, provision was made to finally recognise the work being carried out for juniors in Leicestershire and a new Schools and Youth Section was also added. Jo Mould had prime control for this role, although Dave Cawthorn was later appointed President for the group. It remains to be seen whether Schools and Youth is broken down further into a Boys and Girls Sections later. Changes driving the amalgamation of hockey associations were led by our own Midland Area Association as well as the England Hockey Association (now England Hockey). Many other counties also looked at this process, which should bring the best benefits to hockey and provide a sustainable future for our sport.
Aims: The Association's stated
aims are continually under review and, with
later amendments
are :
As a result of a report on the consequences of adopting a high target rate of expansion of hockey, particularly the impact on availability of pitches, a new Cross Functional Team was set up under Cath Arter with the following remit:-a) To identify the factors inhibiting the expansion of hockey in Leicestershire & Rutland. b) To propose a realistic rate of expansion for the Plan period (2001 - 2006), taking into account the identified factors and to formulate a plan to achieve it. Since then, nothing more has been heard and Cath Arter has moved on! Organisation: Various LRHA officers were elected at the inaugural AGM and those elected at the last AGM are shown on the Organisation Structure, which should provide a more complete understanding of LRHA operations. The Contact details of all the main LRHA officers can be found on our Contacts page.
Rules: By accepting the LRHA, each Section has to abide by Section Rules, which are agreed at the LRHA AGM and clubs have to accept the new Constitution, which remains in force until the following AGM.
Appointments: At the 2004 AGM, the first President of the LRHA, David Cawthorn, was bestowed Life Membership of the LRHA and Margaret McLoughlin was bestowed a Life Membership in 2008 to acknowledge her term of office which had ended in 2007. Historically, the old Association's also had many honorary members whose positions were filled in varying ways: the Women had been made Life Members, Men made Vice Presidents and Mixed made Honorary Life Members. For continuity and to recognise and respect the contribution and many years of service they had made to the sport, these honoured people were automatically also made Life Members of the new LRHA. For the record, these were :
In due course, the previous Presidents
may become Honorary Life Members to distinguish them from
